When James Calvert went out as a missionary to the cannibals of the Fiji Islands, the ship captian tried to turn him back , saying, "You will loose your lives and the lives of those with you of you go among such savages. "To that, Calvert replied, "we died before we came here".
This statement reminds me about Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Ed Mc Cully, Roger Youderian and Peter Fleming as they went into the deep of the Ecuador rain-forests in order to bring the Gospel to the Huaorani tribe, also called Aucas ("savages" in Quechua language). They knew the risks that they were being exposedto, but instead for the love of Christ and the Aucas, like Calvert said, "They had died before they went there".

Hey Bro!
Wow this is a powerful statement, and a very truthful one for a missionaries life. What he said reminds me of a statement from Esther that has always stuck with me. When she was going to see the king, she knew she would be in danger but that was the Lord's will and she said, "If I Perish, I Perish" that has always stuck with me. But for some reason I forgot about it and your post really reminded me of it, thanks for reminding me of that.

Hi Denise
Thanks for your feedback. You are right. I coud have add the statement that Ruth said on that episode of her life if I would only have remembered. Sometimes I feel that we have it easy here in the states while others are really risking their everything in order to serve Him. I feel like I need to do more. Anyhow, thanks again and I am glad you were blessed by it.
In His mercy,
Michael
